Omega Psi Phi was founded on four cardinal principles: Manhood, Scholarship, Perseverance, and Uplift. Historic Members of Sigma Omicron include but are not limited to the first black school board member, Dr. Martin L. Edwards Jr., one of the first black Tyler Police Dept members and first black TISD Assistant Superintendent, Alvin Anderson and one of the first Black Episcopalian Priests, Father John D. Epps.
The Men of Omega continue to give back to our community by providing college scholarships, donating our time and resources to the Salvation Army (toiletry items to the shelter, serving holiday meals, and sock drive, clothing to the Men’s ministry), a mentoring program for teenage males through our Lamplighter program and the Brother You’re On My Mind program in partnership with National Institute of Minority Health and Health Disparities in cooperation with Texas Health and Human Services. Our fraternity also recognizes the need for mental health awareness. We provide support at the Toys for Tots distribution site and participate in Keep Tyler Beautiful. Our members also take time to read at local elementary schools to provide positive male role models.
